Samplesode 40: Febrewary 2015

There is just too much beer in the world to only taste twice a month. In the spirit of more is better the Blind Tiger podcast team has decided to add samplesodes to the podcast lineup. These mini-episodes will feature only tastings of hopefully unique or exotic beer, often on location to keep your Blind Tiger intake at a more regular interval.

This week Jesse and I spent the samplesode discussing our thoughts on the fifth annual Febrewary home-brew crawl.  This is a multi-home, multi-brewer, multi-beer homebrew crawl between several enthusiastic home brewers.  The brewers ranged between almost ready to break into the professional to those who are skilled crafts(wo)men who are excellent hobbyists, to jackasses like me.

The results were amazing.  Each year the quality and quantity of beer improves greatly.  Each year we fear that some entry will be leagues below the top quality beers offered.  We fear that some beer will not get a single vote from the 50+ attendees.  And each year not only does every beer find some love but the champions are always within a single vote.

And speaking of winners, this samplesode we are joined with People’s Choice Winner 2015, Dan Annis, who graciously braved the fear of the microphone to share the story of his beer as well as his thoughts/feelings from being a first time brewer and winner of Febrewary.

This is possible my favorite beer event of the year.  It is always a nervous day for brewers but always too much fun to put into words.
