There is just too much beer in the world to only taste twice a month. In the spirit of more is better the Blind Tiger podcast team has decided to add samplesodes to the podcast lineup. These mini-episodes will feature only tastings of hopefully unique or exotic beer, often on location to keep your Blind Tiger intake at a more regular interval.
This week the Blind Tiger crew decided to head to Enola, Pennsylvania to check out the Al’s of Hampden / Pizza Boy Brewing Co. While we had heard a bunch of great things about Pizza Boy beer and Al’s pizza none of us had made the hour trip from Lancaster to try their wares.
We decided to intentionally go in blind to this review having not had the beer, food, or really any idea of what to expect. Our thought process being that we would have a higher likelihood of not being swayed by the quality of the beer or the significance of their reputation. Let the ambiance, the food, and the beer speak for themselves without the often toxic influence of reputation.
- All the various sauces you could want!
- In house slushie machine!
- Only 102 taps to choose from. Not all their own beer but a variety of good stuff.
- Carryout beer from good craft to cheap mass market. No judgments here.
- Urinals built of kegs. Highlight of the evening?
- Hot wings
- Beer + Pizza = Happy
Give a listen to the episode to listen to our peculiar way of review. And don’t just trust our word on it, go visit it yourself. It is well worth the trip.
I know that I’ll be back far sooner than later. With growlers in tow.
