Samplesode 2: Attack of the Craft Brewers

There is just too much beer in the world to only taste twice a month. In the spirit of more is better the Blind Tiger podcast team has decided to add samplesodes to the podcast lineup. These mini-episodes will feature only tasting a single but hopefully unique or exotic beer, often on location to keep your Blind Tiger intake at a more regular interval.

In this week’s samplesode Mike and I watching the 2009 documentary by Anat Baron, Beer Wars.  We discuss our initial reactions to this in-depth look into the often staggeringly brutal world of craft brewing.

The movie looks at the history of brewing in America, the consolidation of American breweries down to the now big two breweries; Ab InBev and Miller Coors.  It discusses the rationale for the three-tied system designed to balance the power between breweries, distributors, and consumers.

It also followed a few craft brew “celebrities” from various sized craft breweries listening to their experiences, the failures, the woes, but also their successes.

While discussing the movie Mike and I sampled Uinta’s Tilted Smile Imperial Pilsner.  This extremely strong and interesting beer is from Uinta’s Crooked Smile line and clocks in at 9% ABV yet only 30 IBUs.  Listen in to hear what Mike and I thought of this beer from a favorite brewery.

Keep an eye out for the next full episode scheduled for release not Thursday and of course the next samplesode.

Keep listening and of course, as always, keep sampling fine craft brews.
